Trimis and Savva readings

Through reading the article, I was thinking a lot about the idea of chorotopos and what is means. It exemplifies scaffolding and one's surrounding and the influence of an environment of a learner, thinker, and artist.
Is this an ideal that is prevalent in our society and should be expressed. are there ways in which this is already shown and put forth? Is this and ideal that is specific to art learning or can it be encompassed in any critical thinking situation?
Is this way of thinking something we do intuitively or something that we need to teach through example is school and in lesson plans. If I am doing a project or learning a new idea, I might visit the location or research it enough to feel as if I know it intimately. This seems to be the ideal behind chorotopos. Is this the natural path of the art maker or critical thinker in general?

  1. I agree, if chorotopos is space or place then it must impact and influence the surrounding and enviornment of a learner, thinker or artist. We as soon to be educators have always been taught a student's location effects their learning and way of thinking. Therefore I believe this idea should be expressed by society and not only specific to art education by all critical thinking, so it needs to be taught in school through example.

  2. Amanda,

It's interesting to consider the question of whether or not chorotopos could be beneficial to other areas of study or critical thinking, not just art. I definitely think it would be. First hand experience is the best way to learn anything in my opinion. Think about internships and training for a job. For children, getting out there and taking everything in using all their senses is how they learn about the world. Everything is so new to them, and they thrive on excitement. Showing pictures of a place or reading a book about it just doesn't hold a candle to experiencing it for yourself. Trips outside the classroom into the local community and landscape would help students in every subject.
